Capacity mapping for health promotion
View/ Open
Abstract
Capacity mapping for health promotion draws on the outcome of an extensive exercise, within a broader global initiative, to assess the varying capacities for health promotion of countries in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. Capacity-building for health promotion may be defined as the development of knowledge, skills, commitment, structures, systems and leadership to enable effective health promotion. This is the first time that a collective approach has been used to assess existing capacity in health promotion planning, programme implementation, financing and cross-sectoral collaboration in countries of the Region. Capacity-mapping for health promotion will provide a better picture of existing capacities and thus enable optimum use of those capacities. It will also enable policymakers to identify gaps that need to be addressed in future planning for health promotionCitation
