AbstractThis report lists and discusses the changes that it will be necessary to make in the management of care for drug users as a consequence of AIDS. The purpose is to give practical information and guidelines to the administrators and senior staff responsible for prevention and care of problematic drug use, in order to meet the challenges posed by HIV infection. Management of care is used as a global term for all intervention strategies. It includes the different stages of primary prevention, early intervention and treatment of late stages, as well as different areas such as the treatment of drug use and of the HIV-related syndrome of diseases. The report covers the changes that will be necessary in care systems, including changes in the structure of facilities as well as in the care of the individual users
