Abstract: The supply and quality of drinking-water are priority environment and health concerns in Armenia and some waterborne disease outbreaks have been identified in recent years. The Ministry of Health of Armenia, with support from WHO and Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria, have initiated a programme to assist Armenian national authorities in the prevention and control of waterborne diseases. Participants from the Ministry, the Centre of the Hygienic and Antiepidemiological Control of the Republic of Armenia and a number of sanitary and epidemiological stations participated in a workshop in September 1996. The programme addressed the managerial and technical aspects of safe drinking-water supply, and the development of epidemiological methodology for outbreak investigation and situation assessment. The participants identified a series of key policy and technical concerns and recommended that national authorities, with the assistance of WHO, organize a policy conference in Yerevan to identify how to overcome critical limiting factors
