Conception rationnelle des actes de radiodiagnostic : rapport d'un groupe scientifique de l' OMS sur les indications et les limites des principaux actes de radiodiagnostic [réuni à Genève du 9 au 15 novembre de 1982]
WHO Scientific Group on the Indications for and Limitations of Major X-Ray Diagnostic Investigations ( 1983 )
Abstract

Concepts and methods of community-based initiatives
World Health Organization, Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean ( 2003 )
Abstract

Investing in health, particularly that of the poor, is central to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. In support of this strategy WHO's Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean is actively promoting in countries of the Region community-based initiatives like Basic Development Needs, Healthy Cities, Healthy Villages and Women in Health and Development. These approaches are based on the principle that good health status-an important goal in its own right-is central to creating and sustaining the capabilities of poor people to meet their basic needs and to escape from poverty. The regional strategy outlined in this publication presents the multiple challenges that face progress towards the attainment of good health, in particular for the poor, in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. It articulates broad lines of action for public authorities and suggests the need to redress the existing imbalances between policy and allocation of public resources, proposing a far stronger focus on the wider determinants of health

Concepts of species in trypanosomatids
Momen, Hooman ( 2003-10-01 )
Abstract

This paper is a commentary on "Species concepts for trypanosomes: from morphological to molecular definitions?" by Wendy Gibson published in this journal 1. Taxonomy has been traditionally based on expert opinion which is influenced among other factors by the philosophical and educational background of the expert concerned. This has resulted in widely different criteria for species among the trypanosomatids when compared to the actual genetic diversity involved. Gibson's paper presents an example of this within the trypanosome sub-genera. Although attempts have been made to put taxonomy on a more objective basis expert opinion still appears to dominate in the actual classifications in use.

Conceptual and strategic approach to family practice: towards universal health coverage through family practice in the Eastern Mediterranean Region
World Health Organization, Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean ( 2014 )
Abstract

Improving access to high-quality health care is one of the seven priorities for health system strengthening in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Experience from across the world has shown that the family practice approach can increase household’s access to a defined package of quality health services at an affordable cost. The purpose of this document is to provide insight to public health policy-makers and managers of what it takes to introduce or strengthen family practice programmes as the principal approach for the delivery of quality and effective health care services and to help realize commitments made in national health policies and strategies for moving towards universal health coverage.
