Paediatric HIV data and statistics
The global paediatric HIV data in this section is taken from the 2011 Universal Access Progress Report (GLOBAL HIV/AIDS RESPONSE: Epidemic update and health sector progress towards Universal Access, Progress Report 2011 (WHO, UNAIDS, UNICEF)).
- Table 1 outlines the number of children with HIV younger than 15 years of age receiving ART along with the estimated numbers of children in need. These estimates highlight the treatment gap across regions, with Africa accounting for the biggest burden of HIV and lowest coverage of ART.
- Figure 1 describes the global coverage of ART among children living with HIV in 2005, 2009 and 2010. These estimates demonstrate which regions are falling behind however, they show an overall increase in global coverage of PMTCT between 2005 and 2010.
