Evaluations

Evaluation year: 1986

Comments:
The Committee concluded that ethylenimine is a genotoxic carcinogen in the livers and lungs of mice; no ADI was established for this compound. Use of polyethylenimine as an immobilizing agent in the production of immobilized enzyme preparations was considered acceptable on condition that the amount of ethylenimine migrating into food from the immobilized enzyme preparations is reduced to the lowest technically attainable level. The Committee prepared a new general method of analysis for use in ensuring that there is no more than 0.1 mg/kg ethylenimine in immobilized enzyme preparations.
