What Makes a Hospital Safe?

Make a pledge for safe hospitals

A safe hospital or clinic protects patients, visitors and staff from hazards and disasters. It must always be prepared to provide much-needed healthcare services when an emergency arises.

Health facilities are much more than just bricks and mortar.

To function effectively, they need uninterrupted power, water, medicines, equipment and other supplies.

Most importantly, they need trained staff – doctors, nurses, paramedics and many others. They are the ones who work tirelessly to save lives, especially in an emergency. Learn more.

To make sure our hospitals can function even after a disaster, we have to

  1. Ensure the hospital building is strong enough to withstand even major disasters.
  2. Protect essential operations – power, water, medicines, equipment and other supplies.
  3. Protect health workers and provide valuable emergency training.
FACT: It only costs 4% more to include disaster protection into hospital designs. And just 1% more to retrofit hospitals, so they continue to keep health workers and communities safe.
