Summary
This visually spectacular film provides a disturbing portrait of malaria, a disease of poverty which claims one million lives each year, most of them children. As poverty continues to increase throughout the world, the malaria situation has deteriorated dramatically. Today the disease, which threatens 50% of the world's population, is more dangerous than ever owing to the parasite's growing resistance to standard medicines. Shot in Benin, Brazil, and Viet Nam, and narrated by Peter Ustinov, this film shows the daily life-and-death dramas caused by malaria in populations that have no resources to protect themselves or to buy appropriate medicines. For these people, who cannot express their suffering and anguish, malaria is part of just another day. In a strong call to public opinion, the film also demonstrates the formidable social and economic challenges that must be met in order to bring this scourge of the poor under control. **In 1993, this film was awarded the "special prize" during the 4th Medical Film Festival in Mauriac, France
