Summary
This report aims to identify the current issues, challenges and opportunities in low-resource settings regarding the production and lifecycle of medical devices. It builds on the findings from phase I, which elaborated on the general barriers and challenges to accessing medical devices in low-resource settings. A feasibility tool is used to evaluate production and manufacturing viability of selected medical devices in a given setting. This report provides an evaluation of the current capacity, policy and infrastructure to locally produce and manufacture selected medical devices both globally and within the four case study countries: Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa and the United Republic of Tanzania.
