Harmful use of alcohol causes considerable public health problems and accounts for 5.5% of disease burden in the Western Pacific Region. This Regional Strategy has been designed as a menu of best practices to reduce alcohol related harm and facilitate policy development and implementation at the country level. The Strategy outlines the four core areas for national action and regional collaboration: reducing the risk of harmful use of alcohol; minimizing the impact of the harmful use of alcohol; regulating the accessibility and availability of alcohol; and establishing mechanisms to facilitate and sustain implementation of the Strategy.
