SOURCES OF FUNDS
The relationship between the sources of funds has changed significantly over the past few bienniums. The level of the regular budget has increased at a much slower rate than that of voluntary contributions. Voluntary contributions projected for 2006-2007 represent more than 70% of the total financial resources of the Organization.
- US$ 915 million assessed contributions and miscellaneous income (the regular budget) of which the assessed contributions by Member States totals to US$ 893 million
- US$ 2.4 billion voluntary contributions ( from countries, specialized agencies and other partners)
EXPENDITURES
To achieve results in its health programmes, the budget divides WHO's spending into four interdependent categories:
- essential health interventions (such as response to epidemic alerts and reduction of maternal and child mortality);
- health systems, policies and products (such as the quality of medicines and technologies);
- determinants of health (such as nutrition and tobacco-use);
- effective support for Member States (such as increasing investment in knowledge management and information technology, and ensuring staff security).
